Hammerspace is a journal published by the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation that brings together ideas about the experimental nature of cartoons and the complex possibilities of animation. “Hammerspace” refers to the infinite amount of space within or behind something in which items can be stored. The term stems from the trope of a cartoon character pulling an object, such as a large mallet, from behind its back. For this inaugural issue, we invited writers, comics artists, and designers to respond to this theme of hammerspace. Contributors for this issue are Annapurna Kumar, Scott Bukatman, Margaux Duseigneur, Austin English, John Hankiewicz, Stefanie Leinhos, Steve Reinke, and Sonnenzimmer.
